I spent a beautiful June morning on the Crystal Coast with Art for a Full Day Inshore trip, launching from the Morehead/Chapel Hill area at 08:00 and running until noon. Water temps were warm at 85.1°F and the tide cycle had an early high at 4:18 a.m. and a late morning low around 10:50 a.m., which set us up for productive windows both early and later in the day. We started quietly in the mangrove edges and quickly found action — Art connected on four or five fish during those first hours, working the structure and edges where the tide and warm water concentrate bait. After a productive morning inshore, we pushed back out in the afternoon and were rewarded with a couple of memorable tarpon rollers, a fun change of pace and a highlight for the day. The gear we relied on included a fly outfit with a cork-handled rod and bright green fly line that proved effective for the kinds of presentations we needed around tight structure. Art stayed patient and committed to the shots, and that focus paid off across the day. Overall it was a great outing — solid, varied action and a few standout moments on the tarpon.
