We headed out from fl-fwc-co30002ax on July 28, 2026, for a four-hour Full Day Inshore trip with Jane, departing at noon and returning at 4:00 PM. The day in the Paradise Coast / Chokoloskee area was uncommonly warm, with temperatures around 88–90°F, and the breeze was the defining factor—steady out of the west and southwest and at times very strong. Hourly observations while we were on the water showed winds frequently in the 30–50+ mph range, peaking later in the afternoon, so keeping the boat positioned safely and comfortably was a priority. We timed our run with the tide cycle in mind; the nearby Chokoloskee station recorded a high tide at 2:16 PM (about 3.5 ft), which influenced water depth and current patterns across the flats and inshore channels during our outing. With the bright, mostly clear skies and a rising mid-day high, we adjusted our pace and course to make the most of productive water while always prioritizing comfort and safety given the gusty conditions. Throughout the trip I focused on keeping things relaxed and educational for Jane, explaining how the tide and wind patterns were shaping the bite and pointing out features in the inshore landscape that matter for future outings. We maintained a steady, conservative approach to boat handling when gusts picked up, and made sure Jane stayed cool and hydrated in the heat. It was a solid afternoon on the water—clear skies, warm air, and plenty of opportunity to observe how the Chokoloskee inshore environment responds to a strong west wind and a midday high tide.
