We launched from fl-fwc-co30002ax at high noon on August 3rd for a four-hour Half Day Inshore trip with Jane. The Paradise Coast was true to forecast: cloudy skies with a steady chance of showers and thunderstorms, temperatures climbing from the upper 80s into the low 90s, and a consistent SSW to WSW breeze around 8–10 mph throughout our window. With the tide running down toward the low at 1:26 PM (0.53 ft), we tailored our itinerary to work the shallow flats, mangrove shorelines, and protected cuts where water movement and structure come together during the falling tide. We kept things relaxed but focused, moving at a steady pace to make the most of bite windows while staying alert to weather changes. I spent time sharing techniques for reading the water and presented casts to a variety of nearshore targets, emphasizing line management and timing with the subtle current. Jane settled in quickly and enjoyed practicing different retrieves and positioning the boat to give each presentation its best chance. Throughout the afternoon we remained mindful of safety and comfort given the forecast; frequent checks of the sky and wind allowed us to adjust our plan without cutting the trip short, and we took advantage of sheltered stretches to get out of the wind and focus on concentrated casts. Conversation ranged from local fisheries to angling technique, and we kept a steady rhythm between teaching moments and letting Jane fish on her own. We returned to fl-fwc-co30002ax at 4:00 PM with a smooth, uneventful run back. It was a purposeful half-day on the water—good conditions for sharpening inshore skills, reading tidal flow, and enjoying the unique estuarine scenery of Chokoloskee.
